About this
meeting
The International Association for Hydro-Environment Engineering and Research - Hong Kong Chapter (IAHR-HK) Annual General Meeting 2021 will take place online via zoom on August 28, 2021 afternoon, which includes a professional half-day CPD (Continuing Professional Development) Course with the theme of Extreme Floods.
A recent devastating more than 1000-year flood in Zhengzhou, Hunan China occurred on 20 July 2021 caused by extremely heavy rainfall with a record-breaking maximum rainfall of 201.9 mm/h within 1 hour, resulted in serious injury, loss of life and property damage. The issue of extreme storms and floods therefore becomes a more focus of public attention. With increasing frequency and intensity of extreme rainfalls under the impacts of accelerating climate change due to more intensive anthropogenic activities around the world, many cities with dense urban environments and large river basins are facing the threat of extreme floods at a higher risk level. The AGM will include four keynote speeches regarding to the development, characteristics, and experiences from extreme floods.
